Critics have continuously called out Wizkid this weekend for his recent controversial moves.
A lot of social media users have accused Wizkid of following in the footsteps of Burna Boy as the latter recreates similar strategies as the African Giant.
Barely a month after the release of his heavily criticized 5th project, More Love, Less Ego; Wizkid announced a sequel titled Seiless on his Instagram Story. With this, a reference is made to Burna Boy’s announcement of an album titled Ignorance is Bliss some moments immediately after the release of the African Giant album in 2019.
Some 6 hours after the announcement of Seiless as his coming album, Wizkid unfollowed everyone on his Instagram handle including Davido, Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr, and even Jada Pollock, his wife. Wizkid is currently following no one on Instagram. While these are strategies to get talked about, another similarity is drawn to Burna Boy doing the same in 2019 after the release of the African Giant album. Burna Boy had unfollowed everyone leaving his then British girlfriend, Stefflon Don as the only account he was following.
On Sunday afternoon, Wizkid announced he will hold a concert at the 80 000 capacity London Olympics Stadium. This is exactly the point where critics noticed Wizkid is intentionally imitating Burna Boy. This has caused a stir between fans in general and the FC, Wizkid’s fanbase.
Burna Boy, about three days ago, was the first to announce he will be headlining a show at the London Olympics Stadium in June, 2023. Burna Boy was supposed to be the first African to grace the arena for a concert but Wizkid’s announcement this evening now means The Starboy will appear at the stadium on June 1st, exactly two days before Burna Boy’s schedule.
Some fans believe Wizkid’s hijack of Burna Boy’s achievement as the first to headline the London Olympics Stadium is a payback for a similar attitude Burna Boy pulled earlier in the year; it was gathered that Wizkid was the first to publicize plans to hold a concert at the Maddison Square Garden before Burna Boy leveraged on the publicity and outsmarted Wizkid.
Wizkid, before now, appeared at the Maddison Square Garden in the United States as well as the Ziggo Dome in the Netherlands days after Burna Boy’s concerts at the two iconic arenas respectively. “I will not be surprised if Wizkid suddenly starts growing dreads,” a certain troll wrote.
Both artistes had continuously made the public believe they were friends until Burna Boy’s outburst against Wizkid’s fans on Twitter some months back. Both singers have had two collaborations together in the past two years, however, the intensity of the recent rivalry between them has posed a doubt on the genuineness of their friendship.
