Davido is the underdog, Wizkid is the superstar — Akon proclaims

Senegalese legendary singer has made some very controversial analyses about the careers of Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy and Mr Eazi. The singer was questioned about the aforementioned four Nigerian Afrobeats singers in an interview session held on SWAY’S UNIVERSE.

Akon, while recounting how he met Wizkid in 2010 and jumped on the Wizkid song titled Don’t Dull, described Wizkid as the “poster child” of Afrobeats. According to Akon, every other artiste looked up to Wizkid when he broke out in 2010.

About Davido, Akon was of the opinion that the singer was much of “the underdog” who needed to release a song every week to level up at a time everyone wanted to be a Wizkid who could go a year releasing only a single track. Akon specifically stated that “Davido has more songs than any Afrobeats artiste in Nigeria”.

He also mentioned in his assessment of Davido, that he chose “quantity over quality” and his father’s wealth made it affordable. However, he commended Davido as being the most “hardworking” of the four artistes.

Akon revealed his administration for Burna Boy’s promotion of the African culture abroad with his music. Akon stated that Burna Boy is “a beast” whose performances come mostly with swags and the Nigerian pop culture.

When asked about Mr Eazi, Akon appraised the Empawa label executive as another “brilliant” artiste whose focus is mostly the business side of music.
